Seine River forced to flow into floodway
A portion of the Seine River is now being pumped into the Red River Floodway.
Mayor Bob Stefaniuk, of the RM of Ritchot, said because of the water levels in the floodway, heavy equipment was used on Wednesday to prevent the Seine River from backing up into the municipality.

The latest news about flooding in southern Manitoba this spring.
Stefaniuk said normally the Seine River flows into a pipe under the floodway on its way north to the Red River with any overflow spilling over a weir into the floodway.
But Stefaniuk said when the Red River floods and levels in the floodway get to a certain point, the Seine River can't flow into the floodway and starts to backup.
Stefaniuk said in order to prevent that, the heavy equipment was used to build a dike to stop the water from getting to the weir. He said pumps and pipes will be used to get the river's water up and over into the floodway.
