THE sentencing for a woman convicted in one of the biggest homicide cases in Winnipeg history has been postponed.

Lulonda Lynn Flett, 41, pleaded guilty last fall to torching a rooming house at 288 Austin St. North on July 16, 2011, while eight people were inside. Five people were killed and three narrowly escaped the blaze.

Thursday morning, both the Crown and defence told court they required more time to consider the case before making a sentencing recommendation.

The judge agreed to an adjournment.

A meeting is now set for April 10 to set a new sentencing date.

Flett pleaded guilty to five counts of manslaughter and one count of arson after justice officials agreed to drop more serious charges of second-degree murder.

Killed in the fire were Norman Anderson, 22, Maureen Harper, 54, Kenneth Monkman, 49, Dean Stranden, 44, and Robert Laforte, 56.

Flett has been held in custody without bail since the plea bargain last October. She faces a maximum penalty of life behind bars with no chance of parole for at least seven years, but there is no minimum sentence.
