Sex offender nabbed day after release

A high-risk sex offender who was released from prison Tuesday was rearrested Wednesday.

Winnipeg police said Ryan James Gabourie, 31, was charged with breaching the terms of his probation after it's alleged he was found using an Internet terminal at the Millennium Library.

Police had issued a community notification Wednesday, alerting the public that Gabourie had been released.

Gabourie has a history of sexual offences involving boys and girls.

Gabourie was released from the Headingley Correctional Centre after being arrested in June. He'd been convicted of violating curfew conditions and breaching probation terms that he not possess any device with Internet connections. Before that, he served a seven-year sentence in a federal prison for sexually molesting five boys between the ages of 5 and 11 years.

Police said the terms of his most recent sentence included not possessing a computer with Internet access.
