The decommissioning of the Gimli Glider will give plane spotters one less reason to sprint through an airport, camera in hand, headed to departures or arrivals.
The plane's distinctive characteristics -- its C-GAUN registration marking on the body and FIN number on the tail -- are considered to be a top-level sighting.
One recent posting on Flyertalk website said: "I just snapped a picture of the GIMLI GLIDER!!! It's parking at the gate now, I'm going to run over to try to get some better shots. I feel like I'm in the presence of...well, I dunno, but it feels great."
