There will be no more rides on the hybrid bendy bus down Pembina Hwy. -- unless Winnipeg Transit decides the trial run of the prototype was a success.
Transit has wrapped up a five-month testing period of the hybrid articulated bus, on loan from New Flyer Industries.
The bendy bus ran both in and out of service over the winter, and became a regular fixture on the busy number 60 bus route, which travels on Pembina Hwy. and is commonly used by University of Manitoba students.
If the test is deemed successful, the city has said 20 more of the hybrid buses would be purchased sometime this year.
The prototype has now been sent back to New Flyer, city spokesman Ken Allen said.
He said Transit isn't sure how long it will take to assess the data, and isn't hinting yet whether the test results were positive.
"I think there's a lot of information that needs to be reviewed," Allen said.
The bus was tested for a number of factors including reliability, maintenance, fuel consumption, emissions and handling characteristics.
Each articulated bus costs roughly $1 million.
