Transit taking pictures of diamond lane abusers

DRIVE in the Osborne Street diamond lane and you're liable to get caught by a hidden camera.

Winnipeg Transit is setting up a photo enforcement camera to take photos of cars using the diamond lane during afternoon rush hour on southbound Osborne Street at Mostyn Place.

As of Friday, the camera is being tested for six months to see if it proves useful for monitoring compliance with diamond-lane laws.

The camera will take a photo of any vehicle using the diamond lane between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Drivers will not be ticketed based on data captured by the photo enforcement camera during the six-month trial period.

City police will, however, continue to conduct regular traffic enforcement activities throughout the city, including this location.
