Suspect in theft climbs onto roof

A man who tried evading police Thursday by climbing onto the roof of a house has been charged with stealing a truck.

Police said officers went to the 1300 block of Raleigh Street at about 6 a.m. after learning a GMC pickup truck had been stolen overnight.

Police found the truck parked in the back lane in the 400 block of Furby Street and arrested a woman at a nearby residence.

But police said a man was spotted climbing out of a third-floor window and going onto the roof.

The man surrendered after two officers and two firefighters climbed into a ladder bucket of a fire truck to speak to him and help him down.

A 30-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were arrested and released on a promise to appear in court.
