The 12 Days of Christmas Giving
Agape Table general manager Mark Courtney (left) cleans up the kitchen with the help of volunteers after the morning meal service. The organization feeds about 250 people each weekday.
Who they are: Agape Table Inc.
What they do: Feed about 250 people each weekday. The agency runs an all-ages morning meal program in addition to a nutrition program for preschool-aged kids. Agape Table for Kids is an hour-long educational program running one afternoon each week, after which families can take home a week's supply of meals based on the standards in Canada's Food Guide. Aside from its food-access programs, Agape Table also organizes arts, crafts and music activities.
Their Christmas hope: As of the end of November, Agape Table for Kids had raised just one-third, slightly more than $12,000, of the $36,500 that was budgeted for donations this year. And so far, about $30,000 has been spent on food for the program. Though Agape Table's overall budget has helped keep the accounts balanced, the organization is struggling to meet the demands of its kids program.
In Agape's own words: "We try and make it some quality community time," said general manager Mark Courtney about Agape Table for Kids.
How you can help: Call 783-6369, email general@agapetable.ca or drop by 175 Colony St. to make a contribution. Agape accepts monetary donations, as well as miscellaneous items including commercial-sized canned goods, pasta, winter socks and boots and art and music supplies.
