Things to do
1 Curl up... on the ice
The final day of the 11th Annual Ironman Outdoor Curling Bonspiel is on the Assiniboine River at The Forks from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Hurry hard to the Forks historic port to catch the last day of the charity tourney, which raises money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
2 Catch a twist on a classic
MTYP presents The Cat Came Back, the tale of a man and his feline friend, starring Fred Penner, Jay Brazeau and Kim Selod, inspired by the classic Fred Penner song. It's pure entertainment for the younger set and pure nostalgia for the older one. Today's shows are at 1 and 4 p.m., and tickets are $15.
3 Cook up a story
Ever wondered how some people tell such compelling stories? If you have, join the Stone Soup Story Café on Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. at McNally Robinson (1120 Grant Ave.). Led by an experienced storyteller, the free-for-all group creates stories spontaneously. You can come to listen or even pepper yourself into the mix.
4 Start a new adventure
The Forks presents its Winter Adventure programming every Sunday until March 4 (weather permitting). The activities include horse-drawn wagon rides around The Forks from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and crafts in two traditional teepees while aboriginal elders tell the history of teepees from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Both activities are free.
5 See a stage show
Be Belle's guest as her supporting cast of industrious household goods tries to help her adjust to life at the Beast's castle in the Disney classic Beauty and the Beast. It may be a tale as old as time, but the iconic story and unforgettable characters don't get old. Show times are 1:30 and 7 p.m. at the Centennial Concert Hall and tickets range from $45 to $70.
6 Go winter camping
Like camping but hate the hassle of a tent? Then maybe winter camping in an igloo is for you. Take a trek outside the city to Lyncrest Airport (approximately 30 minutes southeast of Winnipeg) to sleep in an igloo -- weather permitting, of course. Call 474-7352 for availability and rates.
7 Meet Mr. Mol
Check out oil paintings by renowned sculptor Leo Mol and the famous Group of Seven at the Pavilion Gallery in Assiniboine Park. See a blend of the artistic talents of Canadians, from the landscape paintings of the Group of Seven to Mol's bronze statues. Admission is free, donations are welcome, and the gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
