Get your soul on ice

The Canopy Skating Rink at The Forks is always a charming place to skate, but today it's upping the ante and turning into an on-ice dance floor. The Soul on Ice program features DJs Hunnicut and Co-op today from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. playing some hits while you skate around the delightful little rink. I personally can't get enough of skating because it's so much fun, and you get a great workout at the same time.

Get serenaded

If you are a fan of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and just haven't had the time to go this season, today violinist Elise Lavallee will be performing an afternoon of chamber music along with some other orchestra members. The Café Concert d'Elise is in the Antoine Gaborieau Hall at the Centre culturel franco-manitobain today at 2 p.m. Admission is $12.

Go Kart!

I've always loved go-karting, but as I got older, I started to feel a little silly in the little kiddy karts that are usually available. Thankfully I have discovered Speed World, an indoor racing track with two different kinds of race cars -- one of which requires a valid driver's licence to operate. In order to drive any of the karts, you also have to be over 4-10, so unfortunately these aren't for small children. But they are for the young at heart who like to kart. Races are about $15, depending on the speed. They're open every day at 575 Berry St.

Have waffles and tea

I am a definite tea addict. There are very few things that I think are better than sipping a delicious cup of tea. So I can't help but share one of the great and fairly new tea joints in town. Recently I checked out Tea Story, which has a great selection of tea, tea lattes, and bubble teas. But the real excitement here was their waffles. They have dessert waffles as well as savory waffle sandwiches, and they're open late every day, including Sundays, at 222 Osborne St.

To Trump or not to Trump?

Donald Trump is one of the richest and most powerful men in the world, able to buy almost anything... including a town? The Winnipeg Film Group is screening You've Been Trumped, a 2011 documentary about Trump's showdown with Scottish homeowners as he tries to build a luxury golf course on the land their town sits on. See it for yourself today at 2 p.m. at the Cinemateque and decide who's side you're on.

See a classic come to life

Starting this week, MTC is presenting its world premiere of Gone With The Wind. This stage adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel is a must see, especially if you're a fan of the movie. Although this version isn't a musical, this epic romance will certainly be a treat to see performed live on stage. Shows run from Jan. 10-Feb. 2. Tickets are available at www.mtc.mb.ca.

Serve up a story

Being told a story is always a comfort, but how often do you get to hear a story as it is being made? The Stone Soup Story Café is Winnipeg's oldest free-for-all storytelling group. They're a group that gets together and gets cooking on a story, hosted by an experienced teller. You're invited to join them and listen, or even add to the story if you are feeling creative. They meet at McNally Robinson Booksellers on Friday night at 7:00 p.m., so head on over for some live action stories.
