THREE men are in custody charged with a violent attack on Main Street Thursday night over a case of beer.

Winnipeg police said two men were badly beaten outside the Manwin Hotel about 8 p.m. Thursday when they refused to give up a case of beer to three attackers.

Police said the three suspects first attacked a 37-year-old man to grab a case of beer he was carrying. The victim's friend was able to retrieve the case and ran off, but the attackers chased him down and beat him.

The 37-year-old man sustained minor injuries, but his friend, 30, was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Three men were arrested a short time later and face charges of robbery with violence and aggravated assault.

They are Robert Caine, 27, Ryan James Edel, 34, and Andre Collins Mitchell, 41.

Mitchell is also charged with breaching terms of probation.
