Two RCMP officers facing charges of drunk driving
TWO RCMP officers face drunk driving charges after two separate incidents last week.
An off-duty RCMP officer on Nelson House First Nation has been charged with impaired driving following a near-collision at about 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 29. Nelson House RCMP officers were on their way to a disturbance call when a Jeep coming out of a dirt trail nearly collided with the RCMP truck.
The Jeep was stopped and the driver was identified as an off-duty officer.
Const. Darcy Stevenson was charged with impaired driving. He is scheduled to appear in Nelson House Court on Oct. 27.
Stevenson has been placed on administrative duties pending an internal review.
On Oct. 2, RCMP in Thompson responded to a motor vehicle collision on Cree Road. A southbound pick-up truck had crossed the centre line and collided with a northbound local taxi cab. Investigators found the driver showing signs of impairment.
Const. Dana Randall, an off-duty member of the Thompson detachment, was arrested for impaired driving and taken back to the Thompson detachment where he refused to provide appropriate samples.
He was released on a promise to appear the next day.
No one was hurt in the crash.
Randall has been removed from active operational duties, and his status is under internal review.
