Vehicle stolen at gunpoint outside mall

A woman had her vehicle stolen at gunpoint in the parking lot of the St. Vital Shopping Centre on Friday, police said.

The incident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Police said a man in the parking lot said something to the 27-year-old woman as she was leaving the car she'd just parked. The suspect pulled out a gun and demanded the woman's car keys. She handed over the keys and the suspect drove off, police said.

The suspect is described as male, Caucasian, 15 or 16 years old, wearing a white ski jacket and dark-coloured toque.

Police are still looking for the vehicle. It is a 2008 white Volkswagen Rabbit with Manitoba licence plate ERK 959.

Officers arrest gun-toting man

POLICE may have prevented a much more serious crime with the arrest of a man allegedly carrying a concealed sawed-off shotgun and ammunition in broad daylight in Portage Place.

Police on foot patrol noticed a man acting suspiciously at about 1 p.m. Friday.

"They are trained to observe anything suspicious," said police spokeswoman Const. Natalie Aitken.

When police approached, the 23-year-old man became confrontational and argumentative. Alert officers acted on their suspicion and seized the firearm.

The man, Justin Michael Henderson of Winnipeg, was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

He faces numerous firearm-related charges and is in custody.

 

Crash sends three to hospital

 

A crash early Saturday morning on Henderson Highway sent three people to hospital, one of them in critical condition.

The collision occurred at about 4:15 a.m. directly in front of the Community Police Services office on Henderson. A patrolling Winnipeg police canine unit witnessed the crash and was first on the scene.

Police said two vehicles, a GMC Sierra truck and a Pontiac Sunfire, were involved in the crash. A 17-year-old girl and 19-year-old woman were taken to hospital in stable condition. An adult man was hospitalized in critical condition. The sole male in the GMC Sierra was not hurt.

Police closed parts of Henderson Highway Saturday morning.

 

Woman stabbed outside bar

 

A woman suffered stab wounds to her upper body after an altercation in a hotel in the 700 block of Main Street early Saturday morning.

The 26-year-old victim was taken to hospital in stable condition. The female suspect was taken into custody.

The two females had been socializing inside the bar when an argument broke out at about 2 a.m.
