Zoo visitors now have the chance to hop about on a walkabout.
The Assiniboine Park Zoo's newest permanent seasonal exhibit is open to the public.
Australian Walkabout features kangaroos and emus in an expansive outdoor enclosure where visitors can enter and walk around with the animals.
"This type of exhibit is something entirely new for the Assiniboine Park Zoo," said Tim Sinclair-Smith, director of zoological operations at the zoo.
"It's going to be a really fun experience for our visitors this summer and probably one that they've never had before."
Australian Walkabout features 14 female red kangaroos and their young, as well as four emus.
Known as docile, good-natured animals, red kangaroos are the largest of the kangaroo species and the largest mammal native to Australia.
While not a new species to the zoo, this is the first time they'll be part of an exhibit where visitors can get this close.
The emu, also a native of Australia, is the second-largest bird in the world by height after its relative, the ostrich.
The new exhibit consists of a large, open-concept enclosure located just inside the zoo entrance
