Wanted: Mean, dour woman, in her 60s

  • Print

"On this very night, 10 years ago, along this same stretch of road, in a dense fog just like this, I saw the worst accident I ever seen."

If you saw Pee-wee's Big Adventure, you'll remember the line spoken by "Large Marge," the spectral truck driver played by Alice Nunn in the 1985 film by Tim Burton.

If you could pass for Large Marge, there's a movie role in it for you, says Declan O'Brien, director of the road thriller Joy Ride 3.

The movie, which is scheduled to commence its 20-day shoot in Winnipeg on Aug. 30, is about a group of young people on their way to a road rally race who earn the chagrin of the homicidal trucker "Rusty Nail" first seen in John Dahl's 2001 film Joy Ride.

In one scene in the film, they stop at a truck stop and are served coffee by a rude waitress.

"When she walks away, one guy says to the others: 'I swear to God, she's the spitting image of Large Marge,' " says writer-director O'Brien, who helmed the horror movie Wrong Turn 4 in Brandon in 2011.

The role is a speaking part (two lines) for "a woman in her 60s with a good sense of humour who could be a relative photo match," says O'Brien. "She has to be really dour looking. Very mean."

Candidates are invited to contact the production by emailing their picture to Joyride3marge@gmail.com.

And be sure and tell 'em: Large Marge sent ya.
