Winnipeg love-hate: Bluenote Graveyard

WINNIPEG LOVE HATE: Bluenote Graveyard

A gaping hole is all that remains at the site of a Winnipeg music institution. The Blue Note Cafe, in the 200 block of Main Street, was unceremoniously torn down a few weeks ago. It was a place where rock greats used to go to jam after concerts in the city. The cover of Neil Young's album, This Note's for You, was shot in the lane behind the club.

Wally Landreth, who used to play there pretty much every week, penned a song about it:

There's not one straight line in the Blue Note Cafe

But there are more dreams there

Than any where I know

We fill up the cracks of our lives with the stuff those dreams are made of

I should know

That's why I go.
