Winnipeg's Most artist fights drug charges

A member of hip-hop group Winnipeg's Most says a police search warrant that saw him arrested in 2008 on drug charges was based on bad information.

And for that reason, William Pierson, a.k.a. Jon-C, claims the evidence against him should be thrown out.

Pierson's lawyer Barry Sinder made the argument Monday in Court of Queen's Bench, claiming the information police submitted to get a search warrant on a Church Avenue house where Pierson was arrested was insufficient.

He said police had targeted four people, including Pierson, for allegedly running a "reloader" house, a place where dial-a-dealer crack-cocaine sellers can reload on the drug and hit the streets again. Pierson was the only person charged.

"They have the radar out for these individuals yet there doesn't appear to be any established connection," Sinder said.

Pierson was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Sinder also argued police should have supplied more information to get the warrant, such as details on the police informant.

Justice Doug Abra reserved his decision until Wednesday.

Winnipeg's Most has won several Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards, including best duo or group in 2011.
