Photographer David Lipnowski has set himself a challenge for 2013. Shoot a portrait a day.

"I have shot 61 portraits so far since the beginning of 2013, with the majority of them being complete strangers I have walked up to," Lipnowski says.

Some days, that goes better than other days. He is now trying to organize portraits in advance rather than walking the streets to find subjects.

"I'm looking for subjects that have a concept/idea for a shoot, and I want to be shooting more humour portraits," he says. Contact him at ????? if you would like to participate.

Sophie

Sophie is a wonderfully energetic Golden Retriever. She is three years old, which is 21 in human years, so she is of age to be drinking. She was extremely co-operative during the shoot, and only spilled wine two or three times. Big thanks to her family (and my girlfriend Carole) for helping out on this one, as there was quite a bit of trial and error to get it looking proper.

Jose Bautista

Toronto Blue Jay Jose Bautista was in Winnipeg today headlining the Blue Jays first leg of their Winter Tour across Canada. Jose Bautista is the Major League leader in home runs since 2010. I had been in communication with the Blue Jays media team over the past couple of days, and was told this morning that they could not promise that I would have any time with him for a portrait session for this project. I went to the event, in which Blue Jays' strength and conditioning coordinator Bryan King, as well as players Jose Bautista, Brett Cecil and Aaron Loup taught two local minor league baseball teams about fitness. After the event, I was given the two minutes I requested with Jose Bautista. In actuality, between the first and last photo taken, 2:11 elapsed, with 37 images made. Of the 37 photographs, I really liked seven unique compositions/poses. One of the reasons I chose this shot for this project is the fact that he is wearing his Sorel Winter Boots. Coming from the above-zero temps of Toronto to the snowy plains of Winnipeg kinda requires those boots.

Elise Krahn

This shoot had hair and makeup! Well, sort of. I saw Elise as I was walking through a mall today, and she was working at the makeup counter. She got a little product from a coworker, but it is still the most prep any of my photo subjects have gotten thus far into this project. I am getting much better at my guestimation of flash exposure as I have been using similar setups every single day now for 49 days. I took a total of 14 images in less than four minutes on this one, with high quality studio results from the very first test frame shot in the middle of the mall.
