Your weekend weather
Good morning, everyone... Hey, what's that brown goo all over your face? Is that chocolate? Aren't you supposed to be hiding that stuff for the kids?
OK, never mind. But tell Uncle Doug: What's up with the sad face? Are you feeling a little gloomy because you heard the weather wasn't going to be very nice over the Easter weekend? Has that got you down?
Well, don't worry because Uncle Doug knows how to cheer you up. Think about it this way: This weekend can't be as bad as 15 years ago when, on this very day, we were buried under mountains of snow because we had just survived the blizzard of '97, which eventually led to the Flood of the Century.
Doesn't that make you feel better? No? Me neither. Because if you think about it some more, 15 years ago we also had all of our own hair, could still remember how to do Grade 5 math, weighed about 70 pounds less, and didn't get winded whenever we bent over to tie our shoelaces. So there's that to think about.
On a happier note, it won't be all that terrible today. Environment Canada says we're looking at a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of rain in the morning, a 30 per cent chance of flurries or more rain in the evening, winds gusting up to 60 km/h during the day, and possibly 70 km/h in the evening and a high of 13 C, which is still warmer than the normal high of 7 C at this festive time of year.
On Easter Sunday, along with gorging yourselves on things coated in chocolate and being surrounded by friends and family, the weather office says you can look forward to a (brrrrrr!) high of 2 C and beautiful sunny skies. What's more, the rest of the week looks to be sunny followed by more sun with scattered periods of sunshine thrown in for good measure.
The high on Monday is expected to be (we'll put this in capital letters for emphasis) ZERO, but that's OK because no one likes Mondays to begin with.
As always, I have a ton of fat-free, low-carb ideas for what you should do this weekend, starting with the big Aquaria Expo today and Sunday at Canad Inns hotel, 1405 St. Matthews Ave. It's dedicated to aquatic life, so there will be lots of fish to look at. It probably should cost you a fin to get in, but I hear it's free.
Since you enjoy a good laugh as much as the next person, why don't you cross the road to check out the Winnipeg Comedy Festival today? Tickets and schedule information are available at www.winnipegcomedyfestival.com Also I strongly urge you to head to the Winnipeg Art Gallery and stare at the Norman Rockwell exhibit, because it is awesome!
Other than that, wipe the chocolate mess off your little faces, then go and hug someone you love. Because, especially at Easter, you're no bunny until some bunny loves you.
Happy Easter!
