Hey, Dude, grab your tie-dye T-shirt and Birkenstock sandals and let's go chill out in the beer tent, because we need to have a little folkie-to-folkie chat.
I do not wish to seriously harsh your mellow, Dude, but here is your official Winnipeg Folk Festival Weekend Weather Forecast: No rain!
Bummer, eh? Like, don't get freaked out, but I have just looked at Environment Canada's website and there is not a cute little cartoon-style raindrop in sight, at least not until Monday.
I realize of all the things that go together, no two things fit together more perfectly than the Folk Festival and a (bad word) summer downpour, but, sadly, it appears this weekend you are going to have to get your mellow groove on and kick back to some awesome mainstage tunes without simultaneously having your entire body coated in a thick, gooey layer of moist Manitoba gumbo.
According to the weather office, what you can expect today is lots of sun with a glorious high of 29 C, which is three full degrees more mellow than the normal high of 26 C at this folkish and festive time of year. Sunday's outlook calls for more sun and a high of 26 C.
There may not be any rain, but your Official Folk Fest Forecast also predicts a 100 per cent chance of feeling laid back in the campground in your Dashikis and man skirts, scattered periods of feeling bummed out because of the long lineups at the porta-potties, giving way to increasing blissfulness when you blow your mind at the ukulele workshop.
For those of you trying to figure out what to do this weekend, I am going to go out on a limb and suggest this: Go the Folk Fest, where tonight's mainstage lineup includes Martin Sexton, Dr. John & The Nite Trippers and Galactic.
Not a folk fan, Dude? No worries, because you can still feel positive vibrations this weekend in Old Market Square at the annual Soca Reggae Festival featuring Trinidad's Anslem Douglas and Junior Kelly from Jamaica, Caribbean food and crafts and a beverage garden.
Need more festivals? We got the annual Frog Follies festival featuring the Canadian Frog Jumping Championship Sunday in the amphibian-adoring village of St-Pierre-Joly, a 50-km hop south of Winnipeg. They'll be leaping for stardom starting at 2 p.m.
Speaking of being covered in slime, grab your rod and reel and take in the annual Winnipeg Fish Festival under the canopy at The Forks today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. We're talking fish clinics, fish displays, fish seminars, fish arts and crafts... and more than $3,000 in prizes to be given away. You should go.
If that doesn't reel you in, don't forget this is the 75th Anniversary Weekend for the legendary Half Moon Drive in. They'll be dishing up free concerts and fireworks both nights, and on Sunday at 4 p.m. "Furious Pete" will be going for the world record in hotdog eating. Record or not, he's already a wiener in our books.
If there's any justice in the world, Dude, the clouds will open and give everyone at the Folk Fest a refreshing drenching.
