RIVER Heights Coun. John Orlikow says a salt, rock and chemical distributor contravened land-use rules by placing industrial silos alongside a BNSF Railway line his ward.
In September, Fort Distributors installed eight metal silos along a stretch of rail line in a residential section of River Heights. Neighbours immediately complained to the city.
City property officials have concluded the silos were placed along the track in contravention of zoning bylaws, Orlikow told reporters Wednesday.
The city is in the process of sending the distribution company a letter informing them of the breach, said Orlikow, adding he does not know whether the city will order the firm to remove the silos or engage in some other form of legal action.
City property officials refused comment, citing the potential for legal action.
Fort Distributors did not respond to requests for comment.
