SLIDESHOW: Pets of the Week

Tessa, 3 1/2 year old poodle/bishon/cocker cross enjoys the boat and fishing; sometimes this is our only catch.
-- Barb Brown
This is Chub, 6, doing what he does best.
-- Tara Stratton and Kelly Krawchuk, Winnipeg
Larry is such a mama’s boy! He loves giving kisses and loves to cuddle. He is the best pet I have ever owned.
— Michelle Rebenchuk, Winnipeg
Elwood joined our family 3 years ago. He was in the dark in the back of the pet store and picked bald by the other cockatiels in his cage. Of course, my son picked out the saddest little runt to bring home. Now happy and adjusted – he chatters and sings constantly while playing with his toys. He is the centre of attention and yells indignantly if you leave the room.

Who knew such a small animal could take up so much room in our hearts?
— Brenda Johnston, Winnipeg
Mama Kitty and her son Tiger love to cuddle up together on a cloudy rainy day by the living room window.
— Norma Burkowski, Winnipeg
Tiger was a stray I took in many years ago. He loves to be outside and occasionally supprises me with interesting poses like this one.
— Jeramey Sukhan, Winnipeg
This Willow, an eight-year-old retriever, cooling off from the hot weather in the pool.
 -- Cindy Warner
These two are the best of friends. They are both rescue cats and are living happily ever after in their forever home.
-- Andrea Northwood, Winnipeg
No matter where he is or how he is sitting our little chihuahua Diego can fall asleep anywhere.
-- Alexis Casemore
Here is a picture of Baby Tiger (7) and his mom Mama Kitty (9) grooming and loving him. Never too old to be loved and groomed
-- Norma Burkowski
Caper found us late one Sunday night, six years ago in July, as we were sitting around a fire.
He jumped onto my husband’s lap. We needed to head back to the city but this tall, thin sixyear- old tabby needed food and a vet’s attention. He had a tattoo and once we got the go ahead through the Winnipeg Humane Society, he resumed being a city cat. He beats the heat by lounging outstretched on any surface in the house. He loves to travel to the country on weekends but prefers being indoors there.
— Shirley Martens
These are the six dogs in our family, at the cottage at Falcon Lake on June 30: (left to right) Jessie 11, Gary 8, Shady 11, Summer 3, Norman 10, Lucy 2.
We got them to all sit for the picture by holding out treats.
— Barb Melo
Here are our four-year-old German Shepherds, brother and sister Nevada and Tahoe, relaxing on the swing.
— Michael Sopher
Rusty is an eight-year-old Golden Retriever. He was a rescue from Animal Services in 2005. Rusty’s favourite place in the world is the cottage, and he loves to go for boat rides. Life is good!
— David Guidry
Baxter enjoys snoring, car rides and parties. Turn-ons include puppy treats and walks. He is very jealous of his sister Abby who was in the paper last year.
— Scott Greer, Winnipeg
Midnight was homeless and my boyfriend and I adopted her. She is the most cuddly cat I have ever met. We also call her the ninja kitty! She always wants to pounce, play and uses her black coat to hide in the shadows.
— Melissa Woods, Winnipeg
This is my oneyear- old longhaired guinea pig Sweetpea and my seven-year-old rescue cat Katie, cuddling up after a good brushing.
— Brynn Guse, Winnipeg
Stanley loves to celebrate spring with a bouquet of daffodils.
— Heather Moore, Winnipeg
Bart was rescued from an unkind, neglectful owner when he was just a puppy. When we adopted him at six months he weighed 61 pounds. He now weighs 122 lbs. and is proud to be a St. John’s Ambulance therapy dog who regularly visits a nearby retirement home.
— Mary Jane Smith, Winnipeg
Five-year-old Leopold was born in winter and saved from the country, and soon became used to city life.
When my father was leaving for a holiday, he wanted to tag along.
— Roxane Basilevsky
I’m from the Winnipeg Humane Society and I’m not quite a year old and weight 13 lbs. My parents decided to put me on a diet.
I hope I still get treats.
— Derek and Suzanne McKay
Darby (middle) is the stately old man of this trio. Jordie (left) is Darby’s grandson and Diego is the new baby of the family. For all their differences in ages and sizes, they get along so well with each other.
Even though he has his own bed, Batman loves to sleep in Abby’s bed (she is a shih tzu). He sleeps in it every chance he gets.
— The Malcolm family, Lundar
We rescued her in June 2006 from a backyard breeder. She came to us in horrible condition. With much love, patience and nurturing, she has turned out to be one of the best dogs we have ever had in our family. She makes us laugh every single day and we just love her to pieces.
— L & L Martin
Maui decided to makie a nest out of paper towels and then take a nap. We caught him redpawed, since he was too exhausted to leave the scene of his crime.
— The Rafnson Family, East St. Paul, Mb.
These two are best friends. When Pop’s brother Iggy passed away a year ago, he took Lilee as his best pal. Pop wears the pants in the relationship, keeping Lilee in her place.
— The Klassen Family, Winnipeg, Mb.
Sky came to us at age three after having six puppies, and happens to be a relative of Doug Speirs’ Basset, Cooper.
Sky is a big goof. Of course, most Bassets are goofs. Owners of this breed must possess a sense of humour.
— Laurie Magorel, Winnipeg
My parents got Kenya from a shelter, so we don’t know exactly how old she is. She loves to play in the snow and “talk” to us and she even hugs us! Kenya is the best dog in the world!
— Chloe, 9, and Nolan, 7, Gawne
Here is the hierarchical order, in our house. He, who is king, gets the bathroom window (Oscar). He, who is the middle man, gets the top of the toilet (Walter). He, who is the newest, gets the toilet seat (Gilbert). And the statue gets the corner.
— Luanne Scott, Winnipeg
Tai loves living in Winterpeg, Manisnowba.
— The Fox Family, Winnipeg
These three ladies, despite their differences, live in harmony and enjoy hanging out together.
— R. Trelinski
Rebel is best friends with our cats Jamie and Malanka.
— Bert and Leslie Wozny, Sanford, Manitoba
Mufasa is a long haired kitty who has six toes on each front paw. This is a typical pose for him. His name comes from the M on his forehead.
— The Taylor Family
I bought him from the animal shelter on Logan in January 2011. He was meant to be with my daughter and I. We became best friends instantly. Booboo is the best cuddle buddy ever! A darling little boy.
— Terrah-Lee Hordeski
This is Sylvester the cat waiting for Tweety!
— Clara Desrochers, WInnipeg
Bichon Frise buddies
-- Brennlee Stevenson
Three friends anxiously awaiting their road trip adventure to begin.
-- Cara Panting
This Shih Tzu is truly a
Penny is very, very playful. One of her favourite places is the cottage on weekends. Here she is going out in the boat with us and watching the kids go tubing.
— Rob, Michelle and Vanessa & Camille
A friend suggested I enter this photo of my dogs Carl the pit bull and Scarlett the retriever cross snuggling. They are both rescued dogs and bring nothing but joy. Carl is the inspiration behind the recent movement to lift Winnipeg’s pit-bull ban. He is a great spokesdog — loves kids, cats and other dogs and would love to be allowed to visit his grandma in the big city.
— Kate Simpkin
This is Griffin; he is a cross of Chihuahua and Brussels griffon. Griffin likes to play lots and loves to go to West Hawk Lake.
— Amanda Caron
Spencer is hunting the evil red dot! Very cuddly and lovable! His favourite pastimes are wrestling with Oli the dog and teasing his older ‘sister’ Imogen.

— Sophie Jones
These ducks swimming on West Hawk Lake at lunchtime were grateful our American bulldog Bellatrix was tied and therefore wouldn’t be dining on confit de canard.
— D. Pappel
Here is Rascal the Yorkshire Terrier riding a wave at our cottage on Lee River, Lac Du Bonnet. He loves the boogie board and literally jumps right on it — super funny!

— Deborah LeBlanc
Most people have a cat or dog, but my mom in Brandon has more than just them! Among her pets are a goat named Chester and a donkey called Soar. Soar was raised on a bottle as her mother died giving birth. Definitely a people person animal, she loves human company! Whenever Soar sees anyone in the yard on the farm, she comes running! Then once she loses sight of us, all you hear is a lot of hee-hawing. She loves attention and follows us everywhere we go.
— Marcelin Gautron, Winnipeg
Yogi loves attention and will do anything to get it.
— B. & R. Golanski, Winnipeg
Hello there, my name is Sheila. Fran, a friend of my mom Dot, named me after Sheila Copps. I’m just taking a rest from watching all my birds in the feeder. On Mondays, I babysit the birds when my mom Dot goes to D’Arcy’s ARC to give the cats there a little love. Happy 90th birthday, mom Dot.
Meet Otis. He is our lap(top) dog. This is one of his favourite places to relax in our home.
— Dylan Lafreniere and family
This is Pullman’s idea of relaxing at the lake.
He is a 15-pound, four-year-old tabby. He pulled open the drawers himself. When my husband opened the drawer once to check on him, Pullman looked at him and then closed the drawer again by getting a grip on the drawer above him.
— Melanie Curtis, Winnipeg
Though he many look like a Furby toy, Kenny is a handsome Shih Tzu who joined our family in September and quickly became the most loved dog on the planet.
— The Zaharas, East St. Paul
