New Year's Babies of yore 1977 to 2013

William Albert Jonathan Traverse, six pounds, eight ounces (2950 grams), became a star at 12:03 a.m. New Year's Day. He was the first child born in the city in 1982. His mother, Irene Traverse, 22, celebrated alone. Her husband died seven months ago in an automobile accident. She has two other children, girls aged five and three. Traverse, of Koostatak, 160 kilometres north of Winnipeg, gave birth to her son at the Health Sciences Centre.
