50 with a 50 photo project
Late autumn in Manitoba can bury a creative brain into a funk. Shorter days, bare trees and everything coloured brown or muddy-yellow. To battle that funk, I started a daily photo project last October — the 50 with a 50. The rules were simple — 50 days. 50 photos. 50mm lens. The intention was to have fun — making cool images for the sake of making cool images with a single focal length. Normally I have a choice of lenses to help make the best image. Restricting myself to one lens was difficult, but it was also liberating. I wasn’t following any other rules. I could slow down to frame anything or anyone I thought was unique. By the end, looking through that 50mm did grow frustrating. The lens is very close to what the eye sees naturally, so gone was the engaging compression of a zoom lens or kooky shape of a wide angle. But Winnipeg is pretty engaging all on its own, and with that 50mm I ended up with 50 images I was happy to share over 50 days. Below is a selection of 20 images. You can see all of them at 50witha50.tumblr.com firstname.lastname@example.org
