A little girl lives again
A century ago, before TV, Facebook and video games, all a sickly little girl had to do was draw pictures and pencil in observations about her life into a sketch book. Now, more than 100 years later, the recently re-discovered diary of a dying nine-year-old Winnipeg girl, who was born in 1900 and died in 1909 from a heart condition, has brought her back to life in a way that will help elementary school children relate to the anniversary of the First World War from a child’s perspective. Here are some samples from Irene Smith’s sketchbook.
