Could it be Cindy and Clara comparing medals in Turin? Or the trial of Louis Riel? Winnipeg winning the Stanley Cup? What about Manitobans heading off on the Nile Expedition? Or the arrival of the Beatles. Maybe the death of the beer snake? Newspapers Canada and PEI 2014 are calling on Canadian newspapers to submit their best front-page stories for a competition called The History of Canada in the Nation’s Front Pages. The national competition will celebrate and award newspaper stories that have made front-page news. The Free Press can enter two dozen front pages for a chance to be represented in the final project. The front-page stories must date from 1864 to December 2013. Ordinary Canadians and a panel of industry experts will help select the winners. Please help us decide which we should enter. You remember the story; we’ll find the front page. Send your suggestions to firstname.lastname@example.org by May 20, and we'll feature a selection of them here.
