Opening thoughts on E3
LOS ANGELES - My first impressions of the Electronics Entertainment Expo, or E3 as it's more commonly known...
Game developers REALLY like violence and gore-porn at press events. Coming up with "creative kills" draws applause from the assembled gamerazzi. Perhaps this caters to core gamers but it really turns me off.

There's also the sticky wicket of the glorification of war. Medal of Honor is set in Afghanistan. Is it too soon to turn that into a game?
Microsoft delivered a solid press event. There were no major cameos like years past, but Kinect actually lived up to the hype.
The game that really moved me was as far from liquified aliens or bullets up the wazoo kills as you can get... Kinectimals. This is a game that allows you to interact with virtual pets. They brought out a young girl to demonstrate, with a baby tiger in the game.
The level of depth and feedback from the in-game animal was astonishing.
Would I buy the game? Likely not, but it shows what's truly possible with the technology.
