Rumours, rumours

It’s all over Twitter tonight that the Calgary Stampeders are now interested in Jesse Lumsden. Maybe the Edmonton Eskimos now, too, with new GM Eric Tillman at the helm.

The Calgary speculation is a bit surprising, seeing as the Stamps are set with Joffrey Reynolds and back him up with Canadian Jon Cornish. But what we’re being told – through our pal Al Cameron at The Calgary Herald – is the Stamps have simply made an ‘exploratory’ call. That could mean they are genuinely interested in the free-agent running back. Or it could mean they are trying to force the Bombers to cough up more cash. Or it could just be the Lumsden camp attempting to bargain for a better deal with the Bombers.

Whatever. It’s at the point now where we’re all just waiting for some team – any team – to fire out the press release announcing his arrival.

This is Lumsden’s choice, of course, and there would obviously be an appeal to playing in Calgary so that he could continue to train with the national bobsled team. But if it’s about opportunity, the best fit still might be the Bombers. No way Lumsden moves ahead of Cornish on the depth chart in Calgary, but here he'd slip in behind Fred Reid and ahead of Daryl Stephenson, Andre Sadeghian and Jon Oosterhuis.
