Tracking the Blue's NFL guys

Pat MacDonald is looking for a football home again after striking out on his attempt to land work with the Seattle Seahawks.

The former Bomber defensive lineman/long-snapping specialist — a Canadian — was cut by the Seahawks Monday night. He is a free agent, not a player who headed south in his option year, so his rights don't automatically revert to the Bombers. Besides, it's hardly a given MacDonald is headed back to Winnipeg.

Interestingly, despite the cries by local fans who wanted the club to draft University of Manitoba Bison defensive tackle Eddie Steele, the Bombers figure they've got a good collection of Canadians for their D-line. The unit is anchored by veteran Doug Brown, but also includes Don Oramasionwu, Justin Shaw, Stan Van Sichem (acquired from Montreal for Gavin Walls), former University of Calgary star Deji Oduwole and sixth-round draft pick Christopher Greaves.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys mini-camp had their coaches drooling over some of their new talent, including Bomber receiver Titus Ryan. Ryan is in his option year and is opening eyes with his speed and return ability. Here's a piece from the Fort-Worth Star Telegram.

As for DB Jonathan Hefney, while he is getting a look from the Detroit Lions he is listed fourth at free safety on the team's depth chart. If he was cut, his CFL rights would revert back to the Bombers. Ditto for LB Derrick Doggett, listed fourth on the Pittsburgh Steelers depth chart.
