Dirt can’t stop a good deed

I was driving home after getting an oil change when I noticed smoke coming from under the hood.

I pulled over and was phoning my mechanic when a young man pulled up behind me.

He was on his way to pick up his girlfriend and was nicely dressed in clothes that didn’t appear to be wash and wear.

He looked under the hood and found the problem. An oily rag had been left there and had fallen down on something that got very hot and was on fire.

He couldn’t reach the rag from above so he got down in the dirt and pulled it out from under the car.

I was very grateful and told him so as he brushed himself off and went on his way to his date.

I returned to the garage, where they checked my car to make sure there was no damage. They apologized and gave me a coupon for a free oil change.

Thanks again to the man who stopped to help. I was leaving for vacation the next day and it could have been ruined if he hadn’t acted so selflessly.
