Generosity at the rink
Why would a complete stranger offer his hockey jersey to a 17-year-old boy?
Luke is an intelligent, happy, personable, easy-going kid who happens to have cerebral palsy and uses a power wheelchair to get around. He is otherwise a normal teenage boy who loves hockey and more specifically, the Jets.
Joe was speechless and as the man starts to walk away, my husband extends his hand and says thank you and asks him his name. The man says Mark, and quickly leaves. The three of them stare at each other and realize they want to find out more about this generous man.
They talk to the ticket-takers nearby ask if they know this man. They say Mark is a season-ticket holder who sits behind the visiting team’s bench, possibly in section 116 or 117.
Joe asks if they can find out who he is so we can properly thank him. They say they will try.
But that is not the end of the story. As Joe stretches out the jersey front and back, Luke’s jaw just about hits the floor and Joe is choked up and laughing at the same time. Guess what jersey the man gave Luke? Burmistrov.
If anyone knows who this good Samaritan is please let us know.
Mark, just in case you see this story and we can’t track you down, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Luke is beyond the moon.
