Hope restored

  • Print

I’m not used to carrying around a wallet because usually I have a purse. But with a new little one, I made the switch to a diaper bag and had my wallet in the tray of my stroller.

As I was flipping the stroller closed and tossing it in the van, I neglected to take my wallet out and I guess it flew out onto the road. However, I didn’t realize that happened until I was about 10 blocks away.

I sped back, distraught. "My ALL is in there," I kept thinking.

I searched furiously through the slush looking under other vehicles that had parked where I had been and then on the street, but to no avail.

I cried. I yelled. I was angry at myself. I cancelled cards and cheques and finally resolved that it was gone forever and that was that.

This morning there was a knock at the door.

When I answered, a man was standing there and he asked me if my name was Wanda. I saw that he was holding my wallet. Holy! I couldn’t believe it.

I thanked him like a hundred times and offered him money as a reward, but he wouldn’t take it.

I didn’t get his name. Not only did someone find my wallet, they returned it straight to me at my home, intact, everything as I left it.

So whoever you are, thank you again. You have restored my hope in the hearts of people with your kind act.

— Wanda Lee-Ann Edwards van Muijen
