Humble helpers say no to payment

I was on my way to work, early for a change, and noticed a vehicle backing out of a driveway ahead.

As I got closer I realized the driver was not looking to see if traffic was approaching. I was about one and a half driveways away, when the driver started to back onto the road. The driver didn't respond despite the fact I was honking my horn and ultimately had to swerve to avoid a collision as I was unable to brake quickly enough.

I ended up being stuck in the ditch. It was minus 29 (minus 42 with the wind chill) and I knew the wait for CAA would be a long one. As I sat there in the ditch, on hold with CAA, a gentleman pulled up in his truck to see if I was OK.

I explained the situation and he pulled over to see if he could assist. As he was checking to see if he could hook up a chain to tow me out, another gentleman in a truck stopped to help as well.

Together they got me out of that ditch.

I thanked them for their assistance and offered each of them $5 to buy a coffee, but neither would accept.

I am writing in so that I can once again express my gratitude to these humble helpers them for their kindness and assistance on such a frigid day.
