Lucky to live in caring community

While leaving the local Staples store in Brandon, I tripped on a curb in the parking lot, hitting my head and slicing open my thumb on the concrete.

I had fallen heavily and lay there dazed until several good Samaritans came running to assist me.

The first kind soul, a passing stranger by the name of Gary, helped me up and guided me back into the store whereupon I was seated in a chair.

A young lady by the name of Pat, who had moments earlier waited on me at the till, quickly produced a first-aid kit and proceeded to bandage my profusely bleeding thumb.

As I was somewhat recovered, I said I would drive myself home but that was wisely vetoed by my rescuers.

Another kind Staples employee by the name of Bob said he would drive me home in my car and Gary agreed to follow us in order to take Bob back to the store after I was safely deposited at home.

A very short time later paramedics, who had been summoned by the staff of Staples, arrived and checked me thoroughly, staying with me until my daughter arrived to ferry me to the local clinic.

At the clinic, I received prompt and compassionate care from Dr. N. Butler and had my wound re-dressed by the friendly nursing staff.

I would like to publicly thank all those people who rallied around to help an elderly gentleman in distress. I consider myself very fortunate to live in such a caring community.
