My wife, step-daughter and I decided to go out for an early New Years Eve celebration dinner at the Shabusen Restaurant in Transcona.
We had a wonderful meal and had a brief, but enjoyable conversation with a very friendly couple sitting beside our table. After they left, we followed shortly after and tried pay our bill.
As I was getting ready to pay, the hostess/cashier complemented our appearance and then told us we didn’t have to pay for the meal, which came to nearly $62. Puzzled by this gesture, we asked if she was joking. We told her the meal and service were terrific.
Once again, she said our meal was covered, this time by the restaurant. Even more puzzled, I still proceeded to pay the bill, only to be stopped and told once again that it was covered and to go and have a Happy New Year.
My family and I were stunned by this act of kindness and generosity. We can’t be sure, but we have our suspicion that it may have been the couple we conversed with.
On the other hand, maybe it really was the restaurant.
Whoever paid our bill, my family and I would like to thank you for putting a glow back in our hearts from what was a personally dismal and sad year. We are very much looking forward to this new year of 2013. Thank you so much.
