Rent cash returned

  • Print

I want to relate an amazing tale of kindness and honesty by a member of the oft belittled Metis Nation. I am so proud to be a member of that nation.

I left home to pay my rent but stopped first at my mother’s residence to drop off some items. While unloading the car, the envelope of rent money must have fallen from my pocket.

I continued on my way and only noticed the envelope was gone when I arrived to pay my rent. I hurried home and frantically looked through my house for the envelope. Realizing it must have fallen out of my pocket at my Mom’s, I hurried over there but couldn’t find it.

I glumly returned home to look for it again and looking heavenward, hurriedly said a prayer to God to please allow whoever found the envelope containing hundreds of dollars in cash to be an honest person and return it. This was highly unlikely, but not outside the realm of possibility as I always include my name, address and phone number with the rent money.

I am on a small disability pension, have no money to cover the loss and would likely face eviction. I advertised the loss on Kijiji Winnipeg and was about to put an ad in the Free Press lost and found section when the phone rang and my heaven-sent angel, Yvette, was calling from the Manitoba Metis Federation to tell me she had found the envelope.

My joy and relief from this great act of honesty floored me. Yvette’s co-workers refer to her as an angel, and she most certainly is mine.

I can never thank Yvette enough for her tremendous act of kindness and honesty and will forever include her in my prayers for her to have a long, healthy and prosperous life.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Yvette.
