This morning I rode my bike a short distance to Whytewold Road and Ness Avenue to mail some letters.
But when starting off, I lost my balance and fell heavily to the pavement. Though not seriously hurt, I could not get to my feet. I am 80 years old.
Enter a young member of the Canadian Forces and her six-year-old son. She stopped her SUV and helped me to stand up.
Then someone, possibly the owner of the nearby Images, Fitness for Women, emerged from the spa with a first aid kit. Soon my superficial scrapes and bruises were patched up, and I was on my way home, walking the bike, having declined the offer of a ride.
A chance meeting among strangers showed me a kindliness and caring which I will long remember.
