Stonewall vet saves the day
On New Year’s Eve at about 4 p.m. we noticed our little dog, Scotty, had something very wrong with his eye and he had become very lethargic.
I quickly called several vets in the city and found them all closed for the holiday. I remembered having luck with the Stonewall vet some years before. I called the emergency number, and Dr. Mander told me he was now at home in Winnipeg but said to meet him at his clinic in Stonewall.
We arrived an hour later as the highways were a bit slippery and it was very windy. He had been there half an hour waiting for us. He worked on my dog for more than an hour and gave Scotty a needle for his pain. Dr. Mander assured me my dog would be okay in a week and gave me three medications. He then told me he had been on his way out to celebrate New Year’s Eve when I called.
The next day, on the holiday, Dr. Mander took the time to call us to find out how Scotty was doing.
This vet is an extraordinary human being. He never charged me extra for driving out after work hours. We were blessed that this man took the time to help us.
We can’t thank him enough. This was above and beyond the call of duty.
