Thanks for all the kindness

While on my way to an appointment, I was crossing the street near York and Main streets, tripped and did a full body fall to the pavement. I was hurt and bleeding profusely from a cut on my temple.

Immediately, a young man named Keith, who identified himself as working for the city’s construction division, came to my aide. He told me that he is also a volunteer firefighter in Selkirk and had been trained to provide care. He held my hand as we waited for the ambulance to arrive.

At the same time, two young ladies rushed over and asked me if there was anyone they could contact on my behalf. They, too, indicated they would stay until the ambulance arrived. They called my son and my ophthalmologist office to advise there had been a mishap and that I would be taken to hospital.

In addition, the two police officers who arrived to block traffic and the paramedics who took me to the hospital were most helpful and caring.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the three bystanders for stopping to provide assistant when they could have just moved on. Their generosity and care reinforced my belief that there are good caring people in our society. Not enough attention is given to the good works done by individuals like them.
