The blessing of encouragement

  • Print

It was one of those evenings when we just needed to have fun as a family.

You know how it goes... the kids are young, but the days are often challenging, with lots of bickering, arguing and behaviour issues. We needed to just have an evening of fun and decided to celebrate our son’s final hockey game by going out for dinner at Los Chicos on Kenaston Boulevard.

We did have a nice time. Our three kids were happy to be there and sat quietly and obediently — thrilled to have an opportunity to drink unlimited lemonade and eat chips and salsa. All good.

At the end of dinner, our server came and told us that our entire meal had been paid for by another couple. Huh? Who? What? Why?

The only info the server could tell us was that the couple did not know us but wanted to pay it forward. They had noticed how well our kids had behaved and thought that was worth noting. Sigh.

My husband and I were so humbled by this very generous act of kindness. Not only did we receive the gift of a free meal, but even more so, the encouragement that we needed in our parenting and someone’s recognition of our efforts.

To this amazing couple with the two beautiful girls, thank you for gifting us in this way and for being that blessing of encouragement that two parents who are really trying their best needed that day. God bless you both.
