Winnipeg, warm hearts

  • Print

Winnipeg is often referred to as Winterpeg or the Windy City, but as we keep hearing of the many kind deeds done by our citizens a better slogan might be Winnipeg, Warm Hearts.

I have been the recipient of that generosity twice in recent months. The most recent was at the Charleswood Safeway. I stopped there to buy a few items, and when I opened my purse to pay for them, I discovered to my dismay that I had inadvertently left my wallet at home.

I started to apologize to the clerk saying I would need to leave the groceries. A young woman just ahead of me produced her credit card to pay for mine. I was a little dismayed and quickly asked for her address so I could reimburse her. She insisted it wasn’t much, and too cold a day to have to return.

I felt humbled by her goodwill and sincerely thanked her. I wish to thank her publicly for the kind gesture and to all the other Winnipeggers who have such warm and generous hearts.
