Weight is just a number

I had a few people asking to see this "motivating" wedding picture. I have included it with today's blog. There are three days in my life that I consider "bests" - The two days my sons were born and this day where I married the love of my life!

Week one was a little slow out of the gates. When the article that Shamona Harnett wrote was printed in last Monday's paper (April 26), it sent shock waves through me. Call me naive, but I didn't realize our actual weight would be printed in the paper. Now that the entire city knows how much I weigh, let's just say I have additional motivation on losing this weight! I have been to the gym three times since Monday and have worked out at home on the fourth day. Now I have to start meal planning so the entire family is eating right! Any tips, websites to visit or books to read are more than welcome! Thanks to those who have already submitted some.

It's interesting hearing and seeing the comments. The most common comment I am receiving is - "Wow - that takes guts". When I have asked what part takes guts, it always seems to be the printing my weight in the paper. When my girlfriends husband called to let me know that Free Press must have put a misprint in the paper "that couldn't be your actual weight - was that when you were full term" I wasn't sure if he was giving me a compliment or an insult. When he called back a little later apologizing for the comment (thanks to his lovely wife I am sure) it made me think hard about what this number means. To some, it's just a number, to others it means too much. To me, It's a number larger than I would like it to be, however there are other factors that mean as much or more. Inches, body fat, and mostly those skinny jeans sitting in the closet. When I fit those jeans, I have succeeded in my goal - regardless of the number on the scale!

Off to Zumba class...
