The Sapphire Princess is a cruise ship owned by Princess Cruises which entered service in 2004. It has a capacity of approximately 2670 passengers and is the sixth Gem Class ship built by Princess Cruises. The ship was christened on June 10, 2004 in Seattle before departing on her maiden voyage.
Among her spectacular features:
•Nearly 750 staterooms with private balconies (78 percent of all outside staterooms)
•Five dining rooms
•Two specialty restaurants, including Sabatini’s Italian restaurant and Sterling Steakhouse
•Poolside pizzeria, hamburger and hot dog grill and ice cream bar
•24-hour dining and room service
•A wide variety of bars and lounges, including a cigar lounge
•Five swimming pools, including a swim-against-the-current lap pool and additional pools for children
•Lotus Spa, gym and fitness area
•Sports deck, including shuffleboard and jogging track
•Nine-hole golf putting course and digital golf simulators
•Skywalkers nightclub and observation lounge suspended 150 feet above the water
•Wedding chapel featuring wedding-at-sea program officiated by the ships captain
•World-class art collection, gallery and auctions
•24-hour Internet Cafe (wireless access available)
•Library and writing room
•Kids and teens centers
Only 30 cabins are blocked off this year for the group and interest is already very high – especially with many cruisers from the first five trips coming back on board.
The trip is also being promoted on Mike’s weekly national radio show and website. Journey’s Travel has also started weekly newspaper advertising.
As you likely know, signing on for a "group" cruise is simply a great way to get a better rate. Because the sponsor, Journey’s Travel, is buying in bulk, they can secure much better pricing then what an individual couple could get.
As well, it’s a great way to experience new things with like-minded folks who may end up becoming good friends.
However, don’t think going with a group means you won’t get to chart your own adventure. You will have all the time in the world to do absolutely everything you like. There are no commitments whatsoever.
If you’d like to simply treat it as if you were just going by yourselves – yet taking advantage of the discounted group rate – there’s nothing wrong with that.
If you’d like to hang out with some of the other Canadian cruisers in the group, well, you’re more than welcome as well. In the past five years, Mike and Chassity usually ate dinners as a group and took in a few nightly theatre shows together. But with the exception of our on-board cocktail party and the one included group excursion, everyone has tended to go their own way the remainder of the time. It’s been a perfect mix of private time and socializing.
So, if you are thinking this would be a great way to getaway for a bit next winter, don’t hesitate!
