Winnipeg Free Press - ONLINE EDITION
New blog beginnings
"There is nothing wrong with change, if it is in the right direction"
- Winston Churchill
Today marks a new beginning for your friendly neighbourhood crime reporter.
Gone is my original website, which I proudly built on my own from the ground up more than seven years ago. In its place is a new blog which, like the website, I plan to update frequently with news – and views – on important and interesting justice issues of the day.
My goal for MikeOnCrime remains the same as the day I started it – to be a one-stop shop for the countless folks who have an interest about crime and safety in their community, their city, their country and their world. But instead of just a steady stream of stories filling the page, we are going to be much more interactive than we have been in the past.
That means you’ll be hearing a lot more from me, weighing in with my two cents on the headlines of the day. And, more importantly, it means you will be able to drive the conversation.
MikeOnCrime is also where you’ll be able to read my daily Twitter updates – you can also follow me directly at twitter.com/mikeoncrime – which frequently give you a virtual front-row seat in court. You’ll also find the latest information on my weekly national "Crime and Punishment" radio show and various book projects and community events.
As well, I will frequently post documents such as judicial decisions and victim impact statements in an attempt to provide the type of comprehensive coverage and understanding you won’t find anywhere else.
It won’t all be doom and gloom, I promise. I want to have some fun with the site, and will be posting some of my favourite "Lighter Side of the Law" anecdotes and stories I stumble across.
Manitoba Judge Ray Wyant will also weigh in periodically as part of my exclusive "Ask The Judge" feature, answering email questions from readers about the inner workings of the justice system.
We’ll also be incorporating plenty of photos and video into the site as the Free Press continues to forge ahead as the online news leader in town.
The possibilities are endless, and I am excited to see where we are headed as the role of traditional media continues to evolve. It should be quite a journey, one that I hope you will make a point of joining us on by bookmarking the site and checking back frequently for updates.
If you are new to MikeOnCrime, then welcome. If you are were a fan of the previous site, then I think you are going to love what we’ve done with the place!
As always, I’d love to hear from you. If you have feedback, ideas or tips, you can email me directly at email@example.com.
