The federal government is now saying the fake lake being built in the Toronto media centre for the G8/G20 summits really only costs $57,000.
The $1.9 million price tag is for the entire media centre. (That’s on top of the $23 million spent on the arena in Muskoka that was supposed to be the G8 media centre until the G20 was added and the entire media corps moved to Toronto).
A mock up of the lake can be seen here.
Today’s "what were they thinking" category winner goes to a $1.1 million road and sidewalk elevation in Parry Sound. Apparently the budget did not include money to hike the fire hydrant at the same time.
