DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: My young neighbour is doing something in his garage which involves girls coming in and out with clothing over their arms, sometimes in dry cleaner bags or suitcases. I don't know what he's up to, but what if it's a porno business? As a responsible citizen, I have watched these activities and I think there's something odd going on. Should I go down on some excuse and knock at that door and find out what's going on in there? I'm sure his parents have no idea what's going on out there. Should I take my husband's advice and mind my own business so I don't get hurt, or do what needs to be done? -- Concerned Neighbour, River Heights
Dear Neighbour: If the parents live in the house with him, it's unlikely the young guy's running a porn studio in the garage. He may be part of an acting troupe practising a play, a photographer with his first studio in his dad's garage, an artist who paints models, or a costume/clothing designer. But, you're one snoopy lady and you're not likely to be satisfied until you know what's going on. Take some flowers to the parents -- and ask about the business in the garage. After that, go on home, pull your curtains, and let this whole issue rest.
Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: The man who sits in front of me at work has a serious gas problem and I am subject to the fumes from my placement behind him. I'd like to ask the boss if I could be moved our of the line of fire, but it makes sense for me to be located near this guy work-wise. I can't take the constant bombardment every day. The workers to the right and left of me suffer too, but I get the worst of it. Please tell me what to say to the offending guy in front of me or the boss. Dear Gassed out: Band together with the other two employees affected and go to the boss and ask that the person speak to the fellow. It's better the three of you complain together, than you go by yourself. Be as polite as you can and don't attack anything but the gas problem. You're not trying get the guy fired; you just want the working environment to be workable. If you're a big enough company to have a human resources team, you could see HR first, as this is one of their jobs. If you're a smaller company, then you go to the authority above the little group of you, which may be the owner in some cases. If you go alone, it can make for a personal problem between you and the guy in front of you. If nothing constructive comes of this, a desk fan could help alleviate the problem somewhat.
