Tell the happy campers to keep the noise down
DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: We went camping last weekend and the walls of the tent were thin. Even the bushes didn't block the noise, or afford us any privacy. Our neighbours were over the top with passion and we didn't sleep much all night. We complained to the campground people who were young and just sniggered at us old folks. The upshot? We went home a night early. What should we have done -- told them to shut up, left them a note? My husband says we should have imitated them (always with the jokes). I'm not laughing! Camping's not cheap these days -- Camping Casualty, Winnipeg
Dear Casualties: If you could hear them so well, they would have heard you yell back: "Keep it down! We can ALL hear you." Guaranteed, there would have been applause from surrounding tents. Once people are being rude and disturbing the peace, assertiveness is the way to go. Meekness brings on more rudeness
Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: I'm still furious about my girlfriend ditching me at her grad dance. She got drunk and wandered off with another guy she knows. When I found her and said, "It's time to go home now," she was hanging onto him and laughing in my face. I insisted she come with me and offered to knock his teeth out. He said, "She's nothing to me, buddy. Take her." I'm a big guy and she came with me, but she was cursing me out on the way home and we broke up. I still want to find that guy and beat him up. -- Still Mad and Embarrassed
Dear Mad: You're mad at the wrong person. Your girlfriend brought you to her grad dance, then got drunk and took off with another guy. If you shift the anger back onto her where it belongs, you may want to reconsider where you mope. It's summer -- best time in Manitoba to be free and single. Get some friends together for day-hops and try doing your moping at Grand Beach where the parade of ladies is continuous and inspiring.
