Your weekend weather
My feelings about your weekend weather forecast are best summed up by the epic 1966 spaghetti western film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, directed by Sergio Leone and starring the legendary Clint Eastwood.
In terms of our weather outlook, however, this classic movie will be playing in reverse in the sense we'll start off with the ugly, move on to the bad, then finally get a taste of the good by the end of the week.
If you look at Environment Canada's website, for example, you will see ugly little cartoon-style rain clouds representing today and Sunday. Today we're looking at a 60 per cent chance of showers and a high of 14 C, down from the normal high of 17C at this time of year.
On Sunday, there's a 30 per cent chance of getting soaked yet again in the morning and evening, along with an even uglier high of only 11 C.
On the upside, things will improve to merely bad on Monday and Tuesday, with a bunch of clouds in the picture and below-normal highs of 15 C and 13C, respectively.
As for the good, it will be exceedingly sunny on Wednesday and Thursday and the mercury will zip up to a sizzling 23 C both days.
Old movies aside, when it comes to fun stuff to do this weekend, there's nothing but great in the picture, starting with an event that goes perfectly with spaghetti westerns -- the Winnipeg Wine Festival, featuring 515 wines from 134 wineries.
You can take in the big public tastings today and tonight at the convention centre. Tickets are $47.95 at Ticketmaster. If you prefer breakfast to fermented grape juice, stay in your jammies on Sunday and head down to the Winnipeg Art Gallery for the Norman Rockwell Pancake Breakfast from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The whole family can check out the awe-inspiring exhibit and feast on hotcakes and sausages (while supplies last). Personally, before gorging on pancakes, I plan to spend quality time at the wine fest because my wife says I'm a lot like a fine wine -- I need to mature before I'm worth having dinner with.
