Winnipeg Free Press - PRINT EDITION

Merry Christmas

  • Print

'Twas the night before Christmas

And they watched while you slept

Thanks to good ol' Ed Snowden

That big secret's unkept

Every time you send email

Every text you convey

Ain't just data for Santa

"Well, hello, NSA!"

Who is watching the watchers?

Why the espionage?

Can't they focus on China?

Or is that a mirage?

For the third year in Syria

Wanton killing won't end

'Cause the West still sits idly

Paralyzed by its "friends"

At least the Iranians

Now appear to be calm

Can we trust this Rouhani

Not to finish that bomb?

There remains joy in Britain

Where the wee royal lad

Earned the name li'l Prince Georgie

Central B.C.'s so glad!

There is also much joy

In the halls on the Hill

Where the Senate smells ripe

For the overdue kill

Why is Steve Harper fuming?

Michael Duffy, that's why

Tommy Mulcair? He's laughing!

Justin Trudeau? He's high!

Gregor Selinger's reeling

From the hiked PST

When you raise the darn taxes

No one will bend a knee

You would think time is up

For those knee-dipper folk

Fourteen years is an eon

Manitoba's a joke!

But what to Greg's wondering eyes does appear?

But this guy, Brian Pallister, who appears just as queer

"Merry Christmas, you heathens!"

"Don't get mad: 'twas a joke!"

Good thing infidel atheists

Don't quite mind getting poked

It's a different equation

In our doomed city hall

Where the cop-shop costs rise

And our confidence falls

Fire the chief, that's the ticket!

Let the CAO flee!

Blame incompetence, mainly

Move along, 'naught to see

And the Bombers? Don't ask us

Least the Jets win some games

There's no bread? We'll take circus

That's the way we can frame

The past year we just witnessed

Wasn't much to behold

Least we have one another

To protect from the cold

So be nice to all strangers

And be kind your friends

From the Freep, accept our wishes:

Let your joy never end.
