"Because I'm towards the end of completing my PhD in clinical psychology, I don't get to do as much leisure reading as I would like. But one book I was able to recently chip off my list was Train Your Mind, Change Your Brain by Sharon Begley. In her book, Begley does a good job of summarizing the rapidly advancing science on neuroplasticity -- the ability of the brain to physically change in response to experience -- and she uses scientific evidence to support the argument that we can actually alter the physical structure of our brains by adopting new ways to think and behave (i.e., mental training). Perhaps most important, the book is written in non-technical language so it would be easy for most readers to follow."
